Tax Paralegal
Salary: $80,000 - $100,000
Our growing legal practice is seeking an experienced Tax Paralegal to support attorneys in a variety of tax, corporate, and administrative law matters. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with clients, government agencies, and legal professionals while assisting with tax compliance, corporate transactions, administrative hearings, and entity-related matters.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in tax or corporate law, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment. Experience working with county assessors, tax agencies, and maritime or vessel-related matters is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Tax & Corporate Document Preparation
- Draft, review, and maintain legal documents, including LLC operating agreements, corporate resolutions, bylaws, purchase agreements, and other corporate governance materials.
- Prepare tax-related filings and correspondence involving sales/use tax, property tax, and income tax matters.
- Draft responses to tax notices, audits, disputes, exemption claims, and refund requests from agencies such as the IRS, FTB, CDTFA, and County Assessor/Tax Collector offices.
Case Management & Client Support
- Manage case files, deadlines, and legal documentation across multiple matters.
- Communicate with clients regarding case status, documentation requests, and case updates.
- Coordinate meetings, maintain attorney calendars, and ensure timely completion of tasks and deadlines.
Government Agency Liaison
- Prepare and submit Power of Attorney forms, including IRS Form 2848 and CDTFA POA forms.
- Communicate with federal, state, and local government agencies regarding tax compliance and dispute matters.
- Assist attorneys in gathering and organizing information for agency inquiries, audits, and appeals.
Administrative Hearing & Appeal Support
- Prepare exhibits, case summaries, hearing binders, and supporting documentation for administrative hearings and appeals.
- Coordinate filings and submissions with relevant tax and administrative agencies.
- Assist attorneys with trial notebooks, legal briefs, and hearing preparation.
Financial & Tax Analysis
- Review financial statements, tax records, and supporting documentation.
- Identify potential tax compliance issues and risks for attorney review.
- Prepare spreadsheets, reports, and summaries to support legal and tax analysis.
Administrative Support
- Provide general administrative and legal support to attorneys as needed.
- Assist with special projects and seasonal workflow demands.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of paralegal or legal assistant experience, preferably in tax law or corporate law.
- Experience working with County Assessors, Tax Collectors, or other tax-related government agencies.
- Understanding of corporate entities, tax compliance matters, and administrative procedures.
- Ability to analyze financial statements, tax documents, and related records.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience handling property tax, tax controversy, tax compliance, or administrative tax matters.
- Familiarity with maritime and vessel-related taxation, transactions, or regulatory matters.
- Experience preparing exhibits and supporting materials for hearings and appeals.
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Top Three Qualifications
- 2+ years of paralegal or legal assistant experience, ideally in tax or corporate law.
- Experience working with County Assessors and related government agencies.
- Maritime and vessel-related experience strongly preferred.
